TSUNA
CHARACTER NAME: Tsunayoshi Sawada
SERIES: Katekyou Hitman Reborn!
CANON POINT: End of Chapter 390
LOSS: Memories of Kyoko Sasagawa, a girl with whom he's had a one-sided crush for few years. He has risked his life to protect her many times, and one of his greatest desires is to become married to her.

ABOUT THE CHARACTER: For the majority of his life, Tsunayoshi has had an unfortunate nickname: "No Good" or "Loser" Tsuna, which was pretty much who he was. No Good Tsuna really was no good at anything: he frequently failed his classes and tests; he couldn't do physical activities for the life of him; and he was consistently bullied by other kids (and occasionally a Chihuahua). In fact, the only reason he went to school at all was so he could stalk see the pretty, innocent, and kind-hearted girl of his dreams, Kyoko Sasagawa. Of course, Tsuna was far too much of a loser to actually ever do anything about his crush, so he always watched her from a distance, a tiny part of him hoping that she would notice him, while the rest of him reluctantly gave in to the idea of him being lonely No Good Tsuna for the rest of his days.

However, his world was turned upside down when his mom hired a home tutor named Reborn. If the name wasn't weird enough for you, the fact that he's a one-year old baby who claims to be a hitman from the mafia should get you going. As one might expect, bringing up Tsuna's grades was only a small portion of Reborn's purpose for becoming his tutor; indeed, the main reason for him coming all the way from Italy to tutor Tsuna was to make him into the next boss of a powerful mafia group called the Vongola. Using a special bullet called the Dying Will Bullet, Reborn unlocked the potential within Tsuna, forcing him to face his fears and stand up for himself. This potential, along with Tsuna's innate kindness and concern for the well being of others, quickly earned him some friends which became a part of his family.

...which isn't to say he welcomed this change with open arms. While at first he was simply bewildered by Reborn's claims and simply took to ignoring him and his antics, when Reborn persisted and Tsuna gradually found himself in increasingly dangerous situations, he desperately denied having any involvement with the mafia, often running away whenever Reborn brought it up. However, due to his position as the upcoming tenth leader of the Vongola, Tsuna quickly gained a lot of unwanted attention, and was forced to fight to save himself and his friends. A dangerous and intimidating future awaited Tsuna, and that scared him a lot. With no self-esteem to speak for, Tsuna metaphorically dug his heels everywhere he was dragged. However, with Reborn's relentless training, and his newfound friend's enthusiasm and encouragement, Tsuna slowly began to evolve into someone who, surprise surprise, wasn't so much of a loser.

Tsuna's main driving force for becoming stronger became, and still is, the welfare of his friends. Although he never enjoyed fighting and didn't believe he could pull through the tasks set before him, each generously more daunting than the last, Tsuna began to accept that he simply had to. And after watching his friends get hurt several times and going to the brink of death a few too many times for Tsuna's comfort, he quickly began to take training more and more seriously and even began to ask for help. Tsuna improved at an alarming rate, and faced obstacles and took down foes which were thought to be way out of his league, and all for one purpose: to protect those he held dear.

Despite Reborn's efforts and Tsuna's increasingly tremendous power, Tsuna was never greedy, selfish, or vain; nor once has he ever felt a desire to join or uphold the Vongolian name. Even now, Tsuna fears the thought of officially joining the Vongola; so much so that he has at least considered running away. However, Tsuna is now much quicker to put aside his feelings for the sake of his friends, and the bond he holds with them. He has gone from putting down and doubting himself, to actually taking initiative without any prior encouragement in order to save the life of a dear friend. And despite what anyone else may say, Tsuna extends his concern to everyone, often fretting over the well-being of those who had previously been his enemies, and always reluctant to deal the killing blow unless there was truly no other way.

It is this selflessness, this kindness, and this drive to protect which has earned Tsuna so many friends and priceless allies, and makes him the perfect candidate to be the Tenth Vongola boss.

ABILITIES: Click.

Basically, Tsuna has dormant abilities that can be awakened by dying will pills or bullets. While in this state, he produces a dying will flame on his forehead and gloves. These orange flames known as sky flames can be used in a multitude of ways, such as for propulsion, as an array of attacks, and also to absorb other enemies' flames. Tsuna also excels in hand-to-hand combat, and uses it in conjunction with his sky flames. His weapons and techniques are listed on the link above.

THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE: The change of scenery was jarring. He was literally just on the steps leading up to Namimori Shrine, sitting next to Reborn, telling his home tutor five very important words:

I won't let you die.

He literally just blinked, and suddenly, he wasn't out in the woods anymore. He didn't see Reborn in his peripheral vision. He wasn't on stony steps-- he was on a soft couch.

His eyes widened, and he jumped off the couch, looking around wildly, his hand instinctively going for the container of dying will pills in his pocket.

An illusion of this scale out of nowhere? Who could--

His eyes widened again. Daemon Spade--? But he was certain the man had been defeated. Additionally, he couldn't sense any mist flames.

He checked his boss watch. It was unlikely he'd missed it going off-- it beeped a minute in advanced and announced when the round begun, dictating how long the round would last-- and it displayed 00:00, so that meant a new round hadn't begun; the chances of it being Verde's team was unlikely.

"H-hello?" Tsuna called out cautiously.

No response.

"Reborn? Where did you go?"

Silence.

Nothing? he wondered nervously, hand tightening around the lump in his pocket. He should take a pill. He may not be in danger, but there could be an assassin or something lurking around, and by then it would be too late--

He forced himself to exhale, letting go of the fabric. Reborn was right; he had been too dependent on his dying will form, and had become arrogant. He needed to assess his situation before making any rash moves-- turning into his dying will form might just provoke the enemy unnecessarily... if... in fact, there were any enemies around.

He steels his nerves, and tries one more time to get an answer:

"Is anybody there?"

Nothing.

He lets out a deep sigh. If nobody had answered by now, Tsuna figured that there really must not be anyone around. It's both a bit worrying and relieving. He takes a moment to get a sense of his environment. It was the inside of a castle or mansion, there was no mistake about that, but it wasn't one he recognized...

But he found it difficult to concentrate. The transition from such a familiar place to here was so quick and sudden that it was completely surreal. Had he been knocked out, somehow, and this was some sort of dream...?

Reborn had a strange dream not too long ago, and had shared it with the rest of the Arcobaleno. It hadn't been a normal dream by any standards. Was it possible the same was happening to him? If it was a dream, what purpose did it suit--?

He starts a bit when he notices the book on the couch next to where he had been sitting just a moment ago. It wasn't the book itself, so much as the familiar name engraved on it:

Sawada
Tsunayoshi

Still feeling a bit numb, he sort of falls back onto the couch, and reaches over to the book, running a gloved hand over the name before opening the book up.

FIRST-PERSON JOURNAL SAMPLE: Well, I've been here for nearly a week, which means I'm not going home anytime soon, I guess... Might was well introduce myself... um...?

[ !! ]

Oh crap, it's already started recording! What do I say...??

[ Tsuna awkwardly clears his throat, staring at the journal for a bit before speaking.]

Uh, hi. I'm.. Sawada Tsunayoshi. I came here awhile ago...

Um, I already know about all the losses and stuff like that. Obviously, heh...

[ w o w he forgot how much he positively sucked at social interactions. Reborn always shoved him into those things, but now that Reborn's not here, he needs to take initiative.

... he wasn't the last person on the rankings of ambitious people in the mafia in Futa's book for nothing.]

--Ah! Speaking of the loss thing, if it's not an ability and it's not an item, it's a memory, right? Well, I checked and I have all my things with me, and I tested out my abilities earlier, and I haven't lost any of those, so... [It's a memory.

There's a pause.]

... how am I supposed to know which memory I've forgotten if I don't have anyone from home to tell me?
